Einstein's definition of insanity. Take control of your life and never stop improving

It is mentioned that the famous quote of insanity, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” was Einstein’s making. No-one can prove that he was the first one to say this quote, but I find it extremely powerful and it should be written in schools, in workplaces, in the gyms, in homes, on the streets, EVERYWHERE.
How many times have you tried to do the same thing over and over again in the exact same way, hoping that eventually, you will achieve a different result? If you play the piano and you keep on pressing the same wrong key over and over again, I believe that we can all agree that we will hear the same incorrect sound, over and over again, no matter how many times it will be played.Let’s look at another example. In school, if a student wrote incorrect notes in the classroom, no matter how many time he will read the notes, the outcome will be the same, INCORRECT.

At work, we can’t expect to receive a promotion, if we do the same tasks over and over again, no matter how long you will do them. If we do not improve, if we do not strive for more, if we do not add new information to what we do, learn or say, there is no place for change?

We can’t expect to turn the car steering wheel towards the right, hoping that one day the car will turn left, that’s just insane.

To succeed in life, we need to keep on improving, keep on adding value to what we do. That’s why we all need goals in life, places that we want to reach. Setting a goal implies a continuous growth path in order for us to achieve what we set.

People who get upset when someone else is being promoted at work in their place. They think that promotions are earned by being in the company longer than someone else. They believe that just because you have worked for 15 years in a company, they should be the next in line for the CEO position.

Society has changed and has evolved. The days when people took the receptionist job at a big corporation and hoped that one day they will become the CEO simply by working in there long enough are gone. Corporations hire talented people, they hire people who can innovate, bring new ideas, think outside the box, the ones who are willing to change, to look at new perspectives.

Being rigid and not embracing change will only bring disappointment in life. Waking up in the morning, going to work, doing the same tasks over and over again, going home, watching TV, going to sleep and repeating this day by day, 365 days a year, and hoping that things will somehow improve, you will get a salary raise, you will have more money, all these facts build up Einstein’s definition of insanity, “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

Always aim to improve, invest in yourself, challenge everything and do not take anything for granted until you perfectly understood it and examined all the possibilities. Warren Buffett explained that “the greatest investment in life is the one you do in yourself”. If you do not have the possibility at work to improve but you love your job, take 1 hour per day in the evening and study what you do at work.

We have access to all kind of information we desire these days, there are so many books and courses on the internet, that the only person who can stop you from growing is yourself. And if you don’t like your job, study at home for something else.

Follow your dreams, your passions as it will be extremely easy to improve, to aim very high, to become the best version of yourself. When you do the things that you love, you will always want to learn something new as it will bring you lots of joy and motivation. If you want to be outstanding in life than you need to be the best version you can ever achieve and don’t stop!

Can you think of an action or task you do every day and hope that somehow this will bring you different results at one point?

I would love to hear back from you with your ideas on this topic.

Thank you for your time,

Iv

Thank you Michelle. Yes, by changing the way we do things, we evolve. This is the only way.
